Gordon Parks: Glamorous Beauty Through His Lens

Today I saw the link below on the facebook page for Drexel's Historic Costume Collection, and was awed by what I discovered. Some pretty inspirational and absolutely gorgeous photographs by Gordon Parks, ground breaking American photographer.

Gordon Parks' Fashion Photography

These images are fantastic- this is definitely a link I will bookmark for future use as fashion inspiration. Just a quick Google search will turn up more amazing shots by Parks, including one of Ingrid Bergman, but the pictures on the New York Times websites are real gems among his work. Take a look!

Well, it turns out I'm a Dragon.

Funny thing about the college application don't always end up where you thought you were going to. A year and a half ago, I would have sworn I was going to attend VCU.......and now I'm almost finished with my first term at Drexel University in Philadelphia. It was quite a journey, to be sappy and cliche, but I'm so very happy with my choice- this is exactly the right school for me, and I'm extremely excited to delve into everything the University has to offer! Go Dragons!

Since my last post a lot has happened, in both my personal life and in my fashion sense (are they one and the same?). I've fallen in and out of a relationship or two, graduated, gotten into my first car crash, been inspired by European art, culture, and a few key people, and struck out on my own into college life. And I'm loving it all (well, not the crashing the car part- goodbye graduation money!)

But back to the point of this blog- fashion. My sense of fashion has changed drastically since my last post. In fact, I find some of the previous posts a little embarrassing, but that happens I suppose! I'm much less about clashing every color I can find, and a little more about projecting a smoother, more adult, and more confident look. Granted, I'm a college student: there are days when I roll out of bed with five minutes to spare after pulling a late night on design work. Those are decidedly my less fashionable days. But other days, I look damn good! And I'm proud of it.

And the point of this blog is that other people should be too. Whether you love what I'm going to sporadically post or hate it, maybe it'll inspire/steer you in some direction with your own look. I guess that's all I can hope for. Realizing today that after almost a year of not looking at my blog that it has since garnered close to 2,000 views (Fairly small, I know, but really? Almost 2,000 people have looked at this and read my stuff? Weird.) made me realize that I should update what I'm putting out on the internet about myself. And maybe make it reflect more of the person I am today, not the person I was two years ago.

Anyway, let's see if I can find some recent pictures to toss up here.....when in doubt there's always the work I've been doing for classes- maybe this blog will be about the process of becoming a successful D&M graduate....hmmmm!

P.S. Some things haven't changed: blogger is still a terrible platform for formatting pictures!

Some pictures of my dorm space- feel free to use for inspiration on ways to make your dorm or apartment more inviting and homey- it's not much, but I love having this space to come back to and work in!
Below that: Pictures of the first four projects for my Design I class, an exploration of black and white. Each one of these probably requires 30-50 hours of work to create.
